Overview

Bacterial diarrhea is caused by pathogens like Salmonella, Shigella, Campylobacter, often foodborne.

Symptoms

  • Bloody diarrhea
  • Fever
  • Abdominal cramps
  • Tenesmus (Shigella)

Diagnosis

  • Stool culture
  • PCR panel
  • Leukocytes in stool

Treatments

  • Rehydration
  • Ciprofloxacin
  • Azithromycin
  • Avoid antimotility
